Original employer description
Reproduced verbatim from the employer. Verify everything in this brief against the source text below.
Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.
Base is looking for an excellent operator to help scale the systems behind our customer acquisition engine.
This role is responsible for increasing the speed, intelligence, and effectiveness of how marketing operates. You will drive experimentation across lifecycle, referrals, customer engagement, and operational workflows, while building the systems, automation, and infrastructure that make that experimentation scalable.
You will identify bottlenecks, design better systems, implement automation, improve measurement, launch experiments, and operationalize new workflows across the business. In many cases, you will not just help define strategy, you will execute it directly.
A major part of the role is lifecycle and customer engagement strategy. You will own how we engage customers across onboarding, activation, referrals, retention, and winback, continuously testing and improving performance through segmentation, messaging, incentives, timing, routing, and operational design.
The ideal candidate is highly resourceful, systems-oriented, technically curious, and obsessed with finding leverage. You should be equally comfortable thinking strategically, digging through data, building workflows, launching experiments, and executing quickly in ambiguous environments.
Drive experimentation across lifecycle, referrals, onboarding, engagement, retention, and growth operations.
Build systems, workflows, and automation that improve the speed and effectiveness of the Marketing team and broader Growth organization.
Own and execute lifecycle marketing strategy across onboarding, activation, engagement, referrals, retention, and winback.
Strategically improve Base’s referral program through experimentation, operational improvements, incentives, segmentation, messaging, and customer experience optimization.
Identify opportunities to use AI and automation to improve workflows, decision-making, execution speed, and operational leverage across Growth.
Build operational infrastructure that improves measurement, reporting, attribution, funnel visibility, and experimentation velocity.
Partner closely with Growth, Product, Engineering, Data, Sales, and Support teams to improve systems and customer experiences across the funnel.
Improve instrumentation, event tracking, operational visibility, and data quality across growth systems.
You are highly execution-oriented and naturally default toward building, shipping, and improving systems.
You’ve built workflows, operational systems, lifecycle programs, or experimentation frameworks that drove measurable business outcomes.
Strong systems thinking: you instinctively identify bottlenecks, friction, and opportunities for operational leverage.
Strong analytical ability and comfort working with data, funnels, attribution, experimentation, and customer behavior.
Ability to operate independently and execute quickly in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
Technical fluency and curiosity. You are comfortable learning tools, implementing workflows, and working closely with technical teams.
Strong judgment and a bias toward action.
High ownership and accountability.
Lifecycle marketing systems such as HubSpot, Braze, Customer.io, Iterable, or similar platforms.
Building or scaling referral programs.
AI workflows, operational automation, or internal tooling that improved execution or business performance.
Strong analytics fluency, including SQL and product analytics platforms such as PostHog, Amplitude, or Mixpanel.
Experience with experimentation frameworks, funnel analysis, segmentation, and attribution systems.
Experience operating in high-growth startup environments.
Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.
First Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.
Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.
Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.
Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.
Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.
Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.
Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.
